Prior to Logstash version 5.0.1, Elasticsearch Output plugin when updating connections after sniffing, would log to file HTTP basic auth credentials.

The bug was discovered 11/15/2016. The weakness was shared 06/16/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared at elastic.co. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-10362 since 05/02/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
