of the file MediaController.java. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. The saveFile method in MediaController.java in the Telegram Messenger application before 2017-12-08 for Android allows directory traversal via a pathname obtained in a file-transfer request from a remote peer, as demonstrated by writing to tgnet.dat or tgnet.dat.bak.
The bug was discovered 12/08/2017. The weakness was disclosed 12/16/2017 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at bugs.chromium.org.
