Lenovo System Update (formerly ThinkVantage System Update) before 5.07.0019 allows local users to gain privileges by making a prediction of tvsu_tmp_xxxxxXXXXX account credentials that requires knowledge of the time that this account was created, aka a "temporary administrator account vulnerability."

The bug was discovered 11/19/2015. The weakness was presented 04/24/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared at support.lenovo.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-8109 since 11/11/2015. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1552 for this issue.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 522 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
