In Joomla! 1.5.0 through 3.6.5 (fixed in 3.7.0), inadequate filtering of specific HTML attributes leads to XSS vulnerabilities in various components.

The bug was discovered 02/22/2017. The weakness was shared 04/25/2017 with Fortinet's FortiGuard Labs (Website). The advisory is available at developer.joomla.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-7986 since 04/20/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 62 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
