The issue has been introduced in 06/15/2010. The weakness was presented 09/10/2013 by Wi Wang with Vuln Hunt as MS13-075 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared for download at technet.microsoft.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-3859 since 06/03/2013. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1183 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 69927 (MS13-075: Vulnerability in Microsoft Office IME (Chinese) Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (2878687)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. Applying the patch kb2687413 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
