The issue has been introduced in 04/12/2011. The weakness was shared 09/10/2013 by Jose Antonio Vazquez Gonzalez with iDEFENSE Labs as MS13-069 as confirmed bulletin (Technet) via Zero Day Initiative (ZDI). It is possible to read the advisory at technet.microsoft.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-3202 since 04/17/2013. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 882 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 69829 (MS13-069: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (2870699)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100162 (Microsoft Internet Explorer Multiple Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities (MS13-069)).
Applying the patch MS13-069 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 13157.
