A vulnerability was found in Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007/2010/2013 (Groupware Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown processing of the component Online Cloud. The manipulation of the argument ctl00_PlaceHolderDialogBodySection_/PlaceHolderDialogBodyMainSection_ValSummary with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-79. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007 SP3, 2010 SP1 and SP2, and 2013 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a crafted request, aka "SharePoint XSS Vulnerability."

The weakness was disclosed 09/10/2013 by Benjamin Kunz Mejri with Vulnerability Research Laboratory as MS13-067 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). It is possible to read the advisory at technet.microsoft.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Microsoft. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-3179 since 04/17/2013. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

A public exploit has been developed by Benjamin Kunz Mejri in HTTP Request and been published 1 days after the advisory. The exploit is available at seclists.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 69827 (MS13-067: Vulnerabilities in Microsoft SharePoint Server Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2834052)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110217 (Microsoft SharePoint Server Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities (MS13-067)).

Applying the patch MS13-067 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
