Anti-Web up to 3.8.7 cgi-bin/write.cgi template path traversal

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in Anti-Web up to 3.8.7. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is some unknown processing of the file cgi-bin/write.cgi. The manipulation of the argument template with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

In Anti-Web through 3.8.7, as used on NetBiter FGW200 devices through 3.21.2, WS100 devices through 3.30.5, EC150 devices through 1.40.0, WS200 devices through 3.30.4, EC250 devices through 1.40.0, and other products, an LFI vulnerability allows a remote attacker to read or modify files through a path traversal technique, as demonstrated by reading the password file, or using the template parameter to cgi-bin/write.cgi to write to an arbitrary file.

The bug was discovered 05/15/2017. The weakness was published 06/16/2017 (Website). The advisory is available at misteralfa-hack.blogspot.cl. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-9097 since 05/19/2017. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1006 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 31 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Attack attempts may be identified with Snort ID 46802.
