Samsung Magician 5.0 fails to validate TLS certificates for HTTPS software update traffic. Prior to version 5.0, Samsung Magician uses HTTP for software updates.
The bug was discovered 06/15/2017. The weakness was presented 06/21/2017 by Will Dormann as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared for download at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-3218 since 12/05/2016. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely.
