GraphicsMagick 1.3.25 DPX Image coders/dpx.c ReadDPXImage width resource consumption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in GraphicsMagick 1.3.25 (Image Processing Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function ReadDPXImage of the file coders/dpx.c of the component DPX Image Handler. The manipulation of the argument width as part of a Metadata leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

When GraphicsMagick 1.3.25 processes a DPX image (with metadata indicating a large width) in coders/dpx.c, a denial of service (OOM) can occur in ReadDPXImage().

The bug was discovered 07/06/2017. The weakness was disclosed 07/03/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at hg.code.sf.net. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-10799 since 07/02/2017. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
