An FR-GV-202 issue in FreeRADIUS 2.x before 2.2.10 allows "Write overflow in rad_coalesce()" - this allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (daemon crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code.
The bug was discovered 06/18/2017. The weakness was presented 07/17/2017 by Guido Vranken (Website). The advisory is available at freeradius.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-10979 since 07/06/2017. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. Upgrading to version 2.2.10 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 days after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
