The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-400. The ReadMATImage function in coders/mat.c in ImageMagick before 6.9.9-0 and 7.x before 7.0.6-1 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory leak) via a crafted file.

The bug was discovered 06/24/2017. The weakness was shared 07/23/2017 (Website). The advisory is available at bugs.debian.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-11529 since 07/22/2017. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1499 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

Upgrading to version 6.9.9-0 or 7.0.6-1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
