Synology Download Station 3.8.x before 3.8.5-3475 and 3.x before 3.5-2984 uses weak permissions (0777) for ui/dlm/btsearch directory, which allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code by uploading an executable via unspecified vectors.

The bug was discovered 08/11/2017. The weakness was presented 08/14/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared at synology.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-11156 since 07/10/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. Required for exploitation is a simple authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 3 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.

Upgrading to version 3.5-2984 or 3.8.5-3475 eliminates this vulnerability.
