The DoResolveRelativeHost function in url/url_canon_relative.cc in Google Chrome before 30.0.1599.66 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read) via a relative URL containing a hostname, as demonstrated by a protocol-relative URL beginning with a //www.google.com/ substring.
The weakness was disclosed 10/01/2013 by Atte Kettunen with Oulu University Secure Programming Group as 285742 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at code.google.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Google. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-2920 since 04/11/2013. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
