A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 4.12.9 (Operating System) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function acpi_ps_complete_final_op
of the file drivers/acpi/acpica/psobject.c. The manipulation as part of a ACPI Table leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The acpi_ps_complete_final_op() function in drivers/acpi/acpica/psobject.c in the Linux kernel through 4.12.9 does not flush the node and node_ext caches and causes a kernel stack dump, which allows local users to obtain sensitive information from kernel memory and bypass the KASLR protection mechanism (in the kernel through 4.9) via a crafted ACPI table.
The bug was discovered 08/25/2017. The weakness was presented 08/25/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-13694 since 08/25/2017. The attack needs to be approached locally. The successful exploitation requires a simple authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
