The driver_override implementation in drivers/base/platform.c in the Linux kernel before 4.12.1 allows local users to gain privileges by leveraging a race condition between a read operation and a store operation that involve different overrides.

The bug was discovered 05/25/2017. The weakness was released 09/08/2017 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-12146 since 08/01/2017. The attack needs to be approached locally. The successful exploitation needs a authentication.
