The weakness was presented 10/08/2013 by Mateusz Jurczyk, Ivan Fratric and Ben Hawkes with Google Security Team as MS13-086 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared for download at technet.microsoft.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-3892 since 06/03/2013. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 05/26/2021).

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 70338 (MS13-086: Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Word Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2885084)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110222 (Microsoft Word Multiple Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities (MS13-086)).
