A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Ruby up to 2.2.7/2.3.4/2.4.1 (Programming Language Software). Affected is the function OpenSSL::ASN1
of the component OpenSSL. The manipulation as part of a String leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The decode method in the OpenSSL::ASN1 module in Ruby before 2.2.8, 2.3.x before 2.3.5, and 2.4.x through 2.4.1 allows attackers to cause a denial of service (interpreter crash) via a crafted string.
The bug was discovered 09/15/2017. The weakness was presented 09/19/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securitytracker.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-14033 since 08/30/2017. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely.
