A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in GraphicsMagick 1.3.26 (Image Processing Software). Affected by this issue is the function ReadRLEImage
of the file coders/rle.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
ReadRLEImage in coders/rle.c in GraphicsMagick 1.3.26 mishandles RLE headers that specify too few colors, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (heap-based buffer over-read and application crash) via a crafted file.
The bug was discovered 09/24/2017. The weakness was published 09/25/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at hg.graphicsmagick.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-14733 since 09/25/2017. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
