A vulnerability has been found in Poppler 0.59.0 (Document Reader Software) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function FoFiType1C::convertToType0 of the file FoFiType1C.cc. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. The FoFiType1C::convertToType0 function in FoFiType1C.cc in Poppler 0.59.0 has a NULL pointer dereference vulnerability because a data structure is not initialized, which allows an attacker to launch a denial of service attack.

The bug was discovered 09/11/2017. The weakness was published 10/02/2017 as Bug 102653 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.freedesktop.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-14975 since 10/01/2017. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
