A vulnerability was found in Poppler 0.59.0 (Document Reader Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects the function FoFiType1C::convertToType0
of the file FoFiType1C.cc. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The software performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The bug was discovered 09/11/2017. The weakness was released 10/02/2017 as Bug 102724 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.freedesktop.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-14976 since 10/01/2017. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
