Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in UPX 3.94. Affected by this issue is the function PackLinuxElf64::unpack
of the file p_lx_elf.cpp of the component ELF File Header Handler. The manipulation as part of a Binary File leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
p_lx_elf.cpp in UPX 3.94 mishandles ELF headers, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted binary file, as demonstrated by an Invalid Pointer Read in PackLinuxElf64::unpack().
