The manipulation of the argument ip as part of a Shell Metacharacter leads to a command injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-77. Seagate BlackArmor NAS devices with firmware sg2000-2000.1331 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in the ip parameter to backupmgt/getAlias.php.

The bug was discovered 01/06/2014. The weakness was published 10/11/2017 by Jeroen with IT Nerdbox (Website). The advisory is shared for download at packetstormsecurity.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-6924 since 12/03/2013. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details and a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.

A public exploit has been developed by Jeroen - IT Nerdbox and been published even before and not after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1374 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:backupmgt/getAlias.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.
