Google Go up to 1.4.2 net/http net/http/transfer.go Content-Length HTTP request smuggling

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Google Go up to 1.4.2 (Programming Language Software). This vulnerability affects an unknown part in the library net/http/transfer.go of the component net/http. The manipulation of the argument Content-Length as part of a HTTP Request leads to a request smuggling vulnerability (HTTP). The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-444. The product acts as an intermediary HTTP agent (such as a proxy or firewall) in the data flow between two entities such as a client and server, but it does not interpret malformed HTTP requests or responses in ways that are consistent with how the messages will be processed by those entities that are at the ultimate destination. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

The net/http library in net/http/transfer.go in Go before 1.4.3 does not properly parse HTTP headers, which allows remote attackers to conduct HTTP request smuggling attacks via a request with two Content-length headers.

The bug was discovered 07/29/2015. The weakness was disclosed 10/18/2017 as not defined mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at seclists.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-5740 since 08/05/2015. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 26 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 85633 (Amazon Linux AMI : golang / docker (ALAS-2015-588)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Amazon Linux Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 169058 (OpenSuSE Security Update for go (openSUSE-SU-2016:1894-1)).

Upgrading to version 1.4.3 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (85633). The entry 107991 is pretty similar.
