codem-transcode Module up to 0.4.x on Node.js /probe POST Request command injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in codem-transcode Module up to 0.4.x on Node.js (JavaScript Library). Affected is an unknown part of the file /probe. The manipulation as part of a POST Request leads to a command injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-77. The product constructs all or part of a command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

The codem-transcode module before 0.5.0 for Node.js, when ffprobe is enabled, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via a POST request to /probe.

The bug was discovered 05/13/2014. The weakness was disclosed 10/23/2017 (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at openwall.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-7377 since 05/14/2014. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1259 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
