A vulnerability has been found in sam2p 0.49.4 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function ReadImage
of the file input-bmp.ci. The manipulation of the argument width/height
with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In sam2p 0.49.4, there are integer overflows (with resultant heap-based buffer overflows) in input-bmp.ci in the function ReadImage, because "width * height" multiplications occur unsafely.
The bug was discovered 11/08/2017. The weakness was disclosed 11/08/2017 (GitHub Repository). The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2017-16663 since 11/08/2017.
