Linux Kernel UDP_CORK Socket Option access control

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel (Operating System) (affected version unknown). Affected is an unknown functionality of the component UDP_CORK Socket Option. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-264. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

The Linux kernel before 3.12, when UDP Fragmentation Offload (UFO) is enabled, does not properly initialize certain data structures, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (memory corruption and system crash) or possibly gain privileges via a crafted application that uses the UDP_CORK option in a setsockopt system call and sends both short and long packets, related to the ip_ufo_append_data function in net/ipv4/ip_output.c and the ip6_ufo_append_data function in net/ipv6/ip6_output.c.

The weakness was presented 10/21/2013 by Hannes Frederic Sowa as confirmed mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is available at seclists.org. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-4470 since 06/12/2013. The exploitability is told to be difficult. Local access is required to approach this attack. The successful exploitation needs a authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 73554 (SuSE 11.3 Security Update : Linux kernel (SAT Patch Numbers 9102 / 9104 / 9105)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 350492 (Amazon Linux Security Advisory for kernel: ALAS-2013-252).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at patchwork.ozlabs.org. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (73554), SecurityFocus (BID 63359†), OSVDB (98941†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-42105†). See VDB-11083 and VDB-11366 for similar entries.
