In Apache Struts 2.5 to 2.5.14, the REST Plugin is using an outdated JSON-lib library which is vulnerable and allow perform a DoS attack using malicious request with specially crafted JSON payload.

The bug was discovered 12/01/2017. The weakness was released 12/01/2017 by Huijun Chen and XiaoLong Zhu (Website). The advisory is shared at cwiki.apache.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-15707 since 10/21/2017. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
