A cross site scripting (XSS) vulnerability exists in Check_MK versions 1.2.8x prior to 1.2.8p25 and 1.4.0x prior to 1.4.0p9, allowing an unauthenticated attacker to inject arbitrary HTML or JavaScript via the output_format parameter, and the username parameter of failed HTTP basic authentication attempts, which is returned unencoded in an internal server error page.

The bug was discovered 11/02/2017. The weakness was disclosed 12/11/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared at mathias-kettner.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-11507 since 07/21/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
