The dissect_sip_common function in epan/dissectors/packet-sip.c in the SIP dissector in Wireshark 1.8.x before 1.8.11 and 1.10.x before 1.10.3 does not properly initialize a data structure, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted packet.

The weakness was published 11/01/2013 as wnpa-sec-2013-63 ยท SIP dissector crash as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at wireshark.org. The public release has been coordinated with the project team. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-6338 since 10/31/2013. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
