IBM Java 6.0.0.0/6.0.1.0/7.0.0.0 memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in IBM Java 6.0.0.0/6.0.1.0/7.0.0.0 (Programming Language Software). This issue affects an unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Unspecified vulnerability in IBM Java SDK 7.0.0 before SR6, 6.0.1 before SR7, and 6.0.0 before SR15 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via unspecified vectors.

The weakness was disclosed 11/06/2013 by Adam Gowdiak with Security Explorations as http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21655201 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at www-01.ibm.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with IBM. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-5457 since 08/22/2013. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 70791 (RHEL 5 / 6 : java-1.7.0-ibm (RHSA-2013:1507)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Red Hat Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 122060 (IBM Java and JRE SDK Multiple Vulnerabilities (IBM Security Update November 2012)).

Upgrading to version 6SR15, 6.0.1 SR7 or 7 SR6 or higher eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at www-01.ibm.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (88256) and Tenable (70791). www-01.ibm.com is providing further details. The entries 11116, 11118, 11119 and 11120 are pretty similar.
