A vulnerability has been found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 9/10 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 and 10 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted web site, aka "Internet Explorer Memory Corruption Vulnerability."
The issue has been introduced in 03/16/2010. The weakness was disclosed 11/12/2013 by Stephen Fewer as MS13-088 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Microsoft. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-3911 since 06/03/2013. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 06/01/2021). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product decreasing in the near future.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1337 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 70846 (MS13-088: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (2888505)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100169 (Microsoft Internet Explorer Multiple Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities (MS13-088)).
Applying the patch MS13-088 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 13327.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (88381) and Tenable (70846). The entries 10619, 11136, 11138 and 11139 are pretty similar.
