The weakness was disclosed 11/13/2013 as Mozilla Foundation Security Advisory 2013-103 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at mozilla.org. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Mozilla. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-1741 since 02/13/2013. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 70946 (Firefox < 25.0.1 NSS and NSPR Multiple Vulnerabilities (Mac OS X)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 195871 (Ubuntu Security Notification for Nss Vulnerabilities (USN-2030-1)).

Upgrading to version 3.15.3 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
