CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in MediaWiki (Content Management System) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function Sanitizer::checkCss of the component Blacklist Filter. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a incomplete blacklist vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-184. The product implements a protection mechanism that relies on a list of inputs (or properties of inputs) that are not allowed by policy or otherwise require other action to neutralize before additional processing takes place, but the list is incomplete, leading to resultant weaknesses. Impacted is integrity. CVE summarizes:

Incomplete blacklist vulnerability in Sanitizer::checkCss in MediaWiki before 1.19.9, 1.20.x before 1.20.8, and 1.21.x before 1.21.3 allows remote attackers to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks via a \b (backspace) character in CSS.

The weakness was presented 10/05/2013 by Kevin Israel as not defined mailinglist post (Website). The advisory is shared for download at lists.wikimedia.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-4567 since 06/12/2013. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1562.006.

A public exploit has been developed by Kevin Israel in HTML and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at bugzilla.wikimedia.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 71510 (Mandriva Linux Security Advisory : mediawiki (MDVSA-2013:290)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Mandriva Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12810 (Mediawiki Multiple Vulnerabilities (MediaWiki Security Release: 1.21.3, 1.20.8 and 1.19.9)). The advisory illustrates:

It's worth noting that this may allow XSS (using things like behavior, -moz-binding, and JavaScript URLs), and also that there are many other ways to bypass blacklists like this one.

Upgrading to version 1.19.9, 1.20.8 or 1.21.3 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (71510). See 11233, 65746, 65745 and 65743 for similar entries.
