In Artifex MuPDF 1.12.0, there is a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the do_pdf_save_document function in the pdf/pdf-write.c file. Remote attackers could leverage the vulnerability to cause a denial of service via a crafted pdf file.

The bug was discovered 01/23/2018. The weakness was released 01/24/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2018-6187 since 01/24/2018. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
