A vulnerability was found in Linux Foundation Xen 4.2.1/4.2.2/4.2.3/4.3.0/4.3.1 (Virtualization Software). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function dma_pte_clear_one
of the component TLB Flush Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-264. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, and integrity. The summary by CVE is:
Xen 4.2.x and 4.3.x, when using Intel VT-d for PCI passthrough, does not properly flush the TLB after clearing a present translation table entry, which allows local guest administrators to cause a denial of service or gain privileges via unspecified vectors related to an "inverted boolean parameter."
The weakness was disclosed 11/20/2013 as Xen Security Advisory 78 as not defined mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-6375 since 11/04/2013. An attack has to be approached locally. The successful exploitation needs a single authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 71247 (Fedora 18 : xen-4.2.3-10.fc18 (2013-22312)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166636 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security Update for Xen (SUSE-SU-2013:1923-1)).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (89101) and Tenable (71247). The entries 8617 and 64149 are pretty similar.
