In previous versions of Puppet Agent it was possible to install a module with world writable permissions. Puppet Agent 5.3.4 and 1.10.10 included a fix to this vulnerability.
The bug was discovered 02/05/2018. The weakness was disclosed 02/09/2018 (Website). The advisory is available at puppet.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-10689 since 06/29/2017. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
