A vulnerability was found in FFmpeg 2.0.1 (Multimedia Processing Software). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function get_siz of the file ibavcodec/jpeg2000dec.c. The advisory is shared for download at git.videolan.org. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.

It is declared as proof-of-concept.

Upgrading to version 2.1 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at git.videolan.org. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.videolan.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
