A vulnerability has been found in FFmpeg 2.1 (Multimedia Processing Software) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function jpeg2000_decode_packets

The weakness was presented 11/24/2013 by Mateusz Jurczyk and Gynvael Coldwind with Google Security Team as avcodec/jpeg2000dec: Check precno before using it in JPEG2000_PGOD_CPRL as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is available at git.videolan.org. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 26 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
Applying the patch Patchwork avcodec/jpeg2000dec: Check precno before using it in JPEG2000_PGOD_CPRL is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at patches.libav.org. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
