A vulnerability has been found in Exempi up to 2.4.3 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function Chunk
of the file XMPFiles/source/FormatSupport/RIFF.cpp of the component AVI File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
An issue was discovered in Exempi before 2.4.4. Integer overflow in the Chunk class in XMPFiles/source/FormatSupport/RIFF.cpp allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (infinite loop) via crafted XMP data in a .avi file.
The bug was discovered 08/11/2017. The weakness was published 03/15/2018 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at bugs.freedesktop.org.
