D-Link DIR Router 150/250/500/1000 scgi-bin/platform.cgi ping.ip os command injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in D-Link DIR Router 150/250/500/1000 (Router Operating System). This affects some unknown functionality of the file scgi-bin/platform.cgi. The manipulation of the argument ping.ip with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, and integrity. The summary by CVE is:

The runShellCmd function in systemCheck.htm in D-Link DSR-150 with firmware before 1.08B44; DSR-150N with firmware before 1.05B64; DSR-250 and DSR-250N with firmware before 1.08B44; and DSR-500, DSR-500N, DSR-1000, and DSR-1000N with firmware before 1.08B77 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in the (1) "Ping or Trace an IP Address" or (2) "Perform a DNS Lookup" section.

The weakness was published 12/03/2013 by 0_o -- null_null as D-Link DSR Router Remote Root Shell as confirmed exploit (Packetstorm). It is possible to read the advisory at packetstormsecurity.com. The vendor was not involved in the public release. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-5946 since 09/27/2013. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details and a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1202 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

A public exploit has been developed by 0_o (0_o -- null_null) in Python and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at packetstormsecurity.com. It is declared as highly functional. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k.

Upgrading to version 1.08B44, 1.05B64, 1.08B44, 1.08B77 or 1.08B77 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Exploit-DB (30061). Similar entries are available at 11476, 65820 and 65819.
