The manipulation of the argument owa_user_id as part of a User Name leads to a cross site request forgery vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-352. Impacted is confidentiality, and integrity. An attacker might be able force legitimate users to initiate unwanted actions within the web application.

The bug was discovered 02/13/2014. The weakness was presented 03/20/2018 by Dana James Traversie with Dell SecureWorks (Website). The advisory is shared for download at openwebanalytics.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-1457 since 01/14/2014. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 74189 (Open Web Analytics < 1.5.6 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses and running in the context remote.

Upgrading to version 1.5.6 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
