TYPO3 up to 6.2 Content Editing Wizard Unserialize cryptographic issues

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in TYPO3 up to 6.2 (Content Management System). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown part of the component Content Editing Wizard. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issues vulnerability (Unserialize). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-310. Impacted is confidentiality, and integrity. The summary by CVE is:

The Content Editing Wizards component in TYPO3 4.5.0 through 4.5.31, 4.7.0 through 4.7.16, 6.0.0 through 6.0.11, and 6.1.0 through 6.1.6 allows remote authenticated backend users to unserialize arbitrary PHP objects, delete arbitrary files, and possibly have other unspecified impacts via an unspecified parameter, related to a "missing signature."

The weakness was presented 12/10/2013 by Rupert Germann as TYPO3-CORE-SA-2013-004: Multiple Vulnerabilities in TYPO3 CMS as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at typo3.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-7075 since 12/11/2013. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is necessary for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1600 according to MITRE ATT&CK. The advisory points out:

Due to a missing signature for an input parameter an attacker could unserialize arbitrary objects within TYPO3. We are aware of a working exploit which can be used to delete arbitrary files which are writable for the PHP server process. A valid backend user login or a successful Cross-Site Request Forgery attack are required to exploit this vulnerability.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 71782 (Debian DSA-2834-1 : typo3-src - several vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 175249 (Debian Security Update for typo3-src (DSA-2834-1)).

Upgrading to version 4.5.32, 4.7.17, 6.0.12 or 6.1.7 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (89622) and Tenable (71782). See 11481, 11482, 11484 and 11485 for similar entries.
