The weakness was published 12/10/2013 by David Stroud with Perspective Risk as [security bulletin] HPSBPI02945 rev.1 - HP Officejet Pro 8500 (A909) All-in-One Printer, Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) as confirmed mailinglist post (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at seclists.org. The public release has been coordinated with HP. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-4845 since 07/12/2013. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 74269 (HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 XSS), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Web Servers.
