The pm_mallocarray2 function in lib/util/mallocvar.c in Netpbm through 10.81.03 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (heap-based buffer over-read) via a crafted image file, as demonstrated by pbmmask.
The bug was discovered 03/23/2018. The weakness was presented 03/25/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-8975 since 03/24/2018. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
