A vulnerability has been found in Dell EMC Isilion up to 8.1.0.1 and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the component OneFS Web Administration Interface. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Dell EMC Isilon versions between 8.1.0.0 - 8.1.0.1, 8.0.1.0 - 8.0.1.2, and 8.0.0.0 - 8.0.0.6, versions 7.2.1.x, and version 7.1.1.11 is affected by a cross-site scripting vulnerability in the Antivirus Page within the OneFS web administration interface. A malicious administrator may potentially inject arbitrary HTML or JavaScript code in the user's browser session in the context of the OneFS website.
The bug was discovered 02/14/2018. The weakness was released 03/26/2018 by Core Security with Core Security Consulting Services as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). It is possible to read the advisory at seclists.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2018-1189 since 12/06/2017. The attack can be launched remotely. Required for exploitation is a single authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
A public exploit has been developed by Core Security and been published even before and not after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 40 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 38701 (Dell EMC Isilon OneFS Multiple Vulnerabilities).
