A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in WordPress up to 2.0.11 (Content Management System). Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the file wp-admin/options-discussion.php of the component Comment Status Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross-site request forgery vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-352. The web application does not, or can not, sufficiently verify whether a well-formed, valid, consistent request was intentionally provided by the user who submitted the request. Impacted is integrity. Cross-site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerability in the retrospam component in wp-admin/options-discussion.php in WordPress 2.0.11 and earlier allows remote attackers to hijack the authentication of administrators for requests that move comments to the moderation list.

The bug was discovered 11/30/2013. The weakness was presented 12/17/2013 by MustLive as CSRF, DoS ?? IL ??????????? ? WordPress as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at websecurity.com.ua. The vendor was not involved in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-7233. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.

A public exploit has been developed by MustLive in HTTP Request and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at seclists.org. It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 17 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. By approaching the search of inurl:wp-admin/options-discussion.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12850 (WordPress Comment Status Manipulation Cross-Site Request Forgery Vulnerability).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability.
