The MySQL server in Juniper Networks Junos Space before 13.3R1.8 has an unspecified account with a hardcoded password, which allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information and consequently obtain administrative control by leveraging database access.

The bug was discovered 11/05/2014. The weakness was released 04/06/2018 with Minded Security (Website). The advisory is shared for download at kb.juniper.net. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-3413 since 05/07/2014. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1110.001.

A public exploit has been developed in Perl. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 80195 (Juniper Junos Space < 13.3R1.8 Multiple Vulnerabilities (JSA10627)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19957 (Junos Space MYSQL Hardcoded Credentials).

Upgrading to version 13.3R1.8 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
