PCS prior 0.9.164/0.10 REST Interface /run_pcs debug information disclosure

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in PCS. This affects an unknown function of the file /run_pcs of the component REST Interface. The manipulation of the argument debug as part of a Parameter leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

pcs before versions 0.9.164 and 0.10 is vulnerable to a debug parameter removal bypass. REST interface of the pcsd service did not properly remove the pcs debug argument from the /run_pcs query, possibly disclosing sensitive information. A remote attacker with a valid token could use this flaw to elevate their privilege.

The bug was discovered 04/09/2018. The weakness was presented 04/12/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared at debian.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2018-1086 since 12/04/2017. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 3 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 109152 (Fedora 26 : pcs (2018-ce5d7106d8)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 176529 (Debian Security Update for ceph (DSA 4339-1)).

Upgrading to version 0.9.164 or 0.10 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 1 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (109152) and SecurityFocus (BID 99075†). See VDB-116191, VDB-121138, VDB-121139 and VDB-122298 for similar entries.
