A vulnerability has been found in Eshtery CMS (Content Management System) (version unknown) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function of the file FileManager.aspx. The manipulation of the argument file as part of a Parameter leads to a path traversal vulnerability (Path). The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

Absolute path traversal vulnerability in Eshtery CMS allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a full pathname in the file parameter to FileManager.aspx.

The bug was discovered 02/22/2014. The weakness was released 04/16/2018 by peng.deng as not defined mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2014-2069 since 02/19/2014. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1514 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:FileManager.aspx it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.
